It’s Wednesday night and I’m writing this because I have to be at Channel 9 at 6:00 a.m. to do my segment with Gary Meier. If you are up early and reading this, we are on at 6:50 a.m. and then I’ll be hanging around afterwards to play guitar and have my songs cut off halfway through. That’s how they roll on the WGN Morning News. Garry and I are promoting our appearance for Gilda’s Club Chicago on Friday at the Park West. It is a week of firsts for us: The first reunited TV appearance, the first onstage appearance and it’s also the first time we’ve ever done this much work together and not gotten paid. Garry’s salary demands are exorbitant!
I must say that even though he ruined my Sunday evening, I kind of feel bad for Rex Grossman. It must be really hard to fail at such a manly endeavor in front of so many people. Even though he’s probably better at playing football than 99.9999% of us, we all get to rip on him and have a good laugh at his expense. Then again, he knew that when he signed on. Well, maybe Rex didn’t, but I bet his father sure did. I wonder if Bob Griese was a Great Santini figure to Brian. Poor Rex really had/has a Football Dad. He was always in the stands and on TV at Florida. I like Bob Greise, so I hope he was a cool dad. At least Rex got free braces.
I hope things go well at WGN today and that I don’t hit any cyclists on my way either to or from the station. As you might have heard, a group of North Shore cyclists is claiming that Buzz and I have created an atmosphere of danger for them by saying that they irritate us. Check out this sweet cyclist blog. Roads are for cars. Jogging paths are for joggers. Bike paths are for bikes. Buzz and I would never purposely try and hit or even scare a cyclist. They end up scaring us because we have to always yield to them in unwieldy or unsafe ways. You can’t be on the solid white line of the shoulder and not be in traffic, numbskulls. Part of you is going to be on the wrong side of the line.
